Illustrator Love #1: Sveta Dorosheva

What is a Man (book cover)

For the past couple of months, I’ve been debating what to do with this site, since I’m no longer teaching. And now it’s occurred to me: curate illustration from around the world in all of its variousness and manifestations. Maybe there will even be mini-essays at some point about illustration. Anyway, to begin this party, here is the heartbreakingly beautiful work of Sveta Dorosheva, an illustrator based in Israel.

Excerpt from What is a Man?

Illustrated poem by Andrey Sen-Sen'kov

Page spread from a bilingual book, Mr. B.

Compelling attributes: the loose but intentional quality of line; intense/intricate details; rich textures of paper and marks; collage-y elements; sophisticated color palettes; playfulness; confidence; stunning beauty; versatility as a creative human.

Her blog is in Russian and the images are beautiful. Check her out here. And she also of course has a portfolio on Behance.

This is amazing. I think she is my new favorite illustrator. Thanks for sharing.
